People skills.
It is almost a cliche to say that successful people possess "good people skills."
But ask the next 10 people you encounter what they mean by "good people skills" and you may well get 15 to 20 answers.
"People skills" seem to be in the category of things that we cannot really define, yet we always know them when we see them.
It will be our work in this course to both define good "people skills" and to refine those areas in our skill and knowledge inventories that need it.
In the interest of full disclosure, for us "good people skills" will relate to:
- Effectively communicating our ideas
- Working within the context of groups and teams
- Managing conflict
- Negotiating
- Developing leadership traits and "charisma"
- Persuading with integrity
- Developing the thinking skills that lead to excellent writing
Our Focus Through the work and activities of this course, we
will endeavor to better understand the processes and ideas behind excellent communication, or "good people skills." More important, we will undertake to improve those areas in which we can learn to communicate
better.
Our Activities This course consists of 6 learning modules, each
related to one or more of the course objectives. Each will require you to learn in-depth about the ideas and processes behind excellent communication, then apply those ideas in your real world.
Your Adventure Success in this course requires that you follow
a two-fold path: Learning and application. It is one thing to understand "about" good communication skills and habits, quite another to put them into practice. To succeed in this course, you will need to do both.
And you definitely can.
